change

September 28, 2007

change…we don’t like it, we fear it, but we can’t stop it from coming.  we either adapt to change, or we get left behind.  it hurts to grow, anybody that tells you it doesn’t, is lying.  but here’s the truth.  the more things change, the more they stay the same….and sometimes change is good.  sometimes change is everything.

i have a crush on bubbles

September 26, 2007

i have been so addicted to the show “trailerpark boys” it is redic!  all 7 seasons are so funny i lay in bed everynight on my laptop and watch at least 2 episodes.  franco got me hooked on it originally and it was all over from there.  now i’ve got some of my friends hooked on it too (hi darfur!).  so there is this character named bubbles…or “bubs” who is in my opinion the best character on the show.  i’ve been trying to find some wav files of him saying DECENT! and samsquanch but there’s only been videos on youtube.  if you’ve never seen the show, i highly recommend it if you’re into foul language and trailercourt humor :)

Words from Randy Pausch

September 26, 2007

My friend Chris messaged me last night and said that he was watching a really motivational video about a professor who gave his “last lecture” because he is dying of cancer.  I watched the entire lecture (almost 2 hours) and I was amazed at the amazing energy coming from this guy.  Here’s some of the best advice from his lecture:

  • when you’re screwing up and nobody is saying anything, thats when they gave up on you.
  • experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.
  • brick walls are there to show us how badly we want something.  the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it.
  • wait long enough, and people with impress and surprise you.

don’t cross the shitline…evil black mold

September 22, 2007

a quote i borrowed from “trailerpark boys” supervisor, Jim Lahey, has been used quite frequently.  whenever i’ve had a bad day or irritated about something, i always think to myself…”don’t even think about crossing my shitline” if someone pulls out in front of me etc.

my cold has definently crossed the shitline…it’s been 2 weeks now and my head feels like it’s going to explode, i can’t hear anything because my ears are full, my throat hurts, and my chest feels bruised from coughing to much.  i’ve been around a ton of people and nobody else has gotten sick…now i’m getting a little convinced its the black mold in the basement that is making me sick!

yesterday was brice’s funeral service, and jeremy came into town for the brief 2 hour process then was whisked away back to shoemoney land.  he didn’t even stop to see my parents which really bothered me.  my mom is going there to watch juliet for a few days while jeremy & j are gone…but the nanny and “mother-in-law/assistant” will be there too.  i doubt my mom will really be able to get any quality time with her granddaughter :(  ..another crossing of the shitline.

tonight is another ufc…and since i had been kind of out of the ufc circle for about 2 months, i’ve sort of lost track of who is fighting lately.  i have to bartend at a wedding tonight so i’m going to miss it but hopefully i can catch up online and watch some of the better fights.

it seems that i am in a highly irritated mood today…yesterday was emotional and i’ve pretty much laid in bed all day…it’s now 2:38pm and i’m still in bed in my pajamas using my laptop watching trailerpark boys.  however, it is a saturday, so it’s ok to be lazy right?

the impact of one life

September 20, 2007

today brice’s obituary was in the newspaper and also available online. over the last 2 days, brice’s best friends have gathered together and remembered brice and shared stories of their dear friend. friday morning will be extremely hard for his group of friends and all i can do is offer my support and love. i was amazed how quickly brice’s online friends from irc had left a note in the guestbook on his obituary. he really left a mark in this world. my heart goes out to jeremy, franco, mike, ken, josh, and everyone else who lost one of their best friends.

greeting card writer’s block?

September 20, 2007

i recently purchased a greeting card for a friend who was having a difficult time.  i wanted to write something nice inside but i couldn’t exactly find the right words.  i found this link today for suggestions on what to include in your card for every occasion!  i like to send blank cards to friends every now and then but can never come up with something to write inside and i always end up throwing a couple away until i get something written down that i like.  here’s what is suggested:

The most cherished gifts are the ones you make yourself, and the same is true for greeting cards. Writing your own sentiments turns a simple greeting card into a treasured keepsake, and you don’t have to be a professional to do it. Before you begin writing, think about who you’re writing to, and the reason for your card. Then, try some of these tips for inspiration.

Writing for romance

Include a favorite photo of you and the one you love, and write a caption describing how you felt at the time. Focus on specific details, and use descriptive words to bring your memory to life. Or, quote lyrics from a song, a line from a film, or a verse from a poem that reminds you of your sweetheart.

Family time

If you’re writing to a parent or grandparent, write about what you’ve learned from them, or the qualities you feel you inherited from them. If you’re writing to a younger relative, remind them of something that makes them special, or describe an experience from their childhood that they might not remember.

Fun with friends

Get nostalgic by thinking of things that only you and your friend share—inside jokes or stories of past adventures. Include a funny photo from the past, and write a brief story in the style of a fairy tale. Begin with “Once upon a time,” and write about yourselves in third person. If you’re feeling sentimental, thank your friend for every time he or she helped you through a difficult time, and be as specific as possible.

Cards for kids

Try turning a nursery rhyme into a whimsical, personalized poem. Follow the general rhyme structure and rhythm, but change the words to include the child’s name and other details. If you’re writing a birthday card, use the child’s age to make a list (for example, Five Fun Facts About Jenny). Use kid-friendly words they can read for themselves, and try different colors and fonts to add interest.

Say it with sympathy

When writing to someone who has experienced a loss or hardship, put yourself in their situation, and think about what you’d want to hear. If the person has lost a loved one, write about the things you admired about that person, or share a fond memory. Keep your sentiments short and sweet, and remember the old cliché, “It’s the thought that counts.”

Homemade for the holidays

For a lighthearted greeting, make a list of all the words you can think of that are associated with the holiday, and experiment with a little creative wordplay like, “Have a Spook-tacular Halloween.” For holidays with special meaning, reflect on the reason behind the holiday. For example, list the things you’re grateful for in a Thanksgiving greeting card. For religious holidays, quote a spiritual verse that you find inspiring.

Write what you know

No matter what kind of card you’re writing, remember that sincerity counts. You don’t have to be a wonderful wordsmith or a poetic prodigy to write a greeting card that someone will cherish. Take the time to think carefully about exactly how you feel, and the right words will come to you.

project of the month - custom recipe cards

September 20, 2007

this month i chose the custom recipe cards as my project of the month.  this is something i’ve been using for a very long time now, and i already have a recipe book filled up.  i really like this because you can add a photo of what the recipe is for and add it right to the recipe card.  i plan on making a custom recipe book with my own recipes i have made myself to give as gifts.

brice you will be missed..

September 18, 2007

this past week and a half i’ve been battling a sickness that WILL NOT go away.  it’s been a mix between flu/strep/bronchitis/pneumonia/ear infection etc. and i can’t kick it.

also this week i’ve had to completely move everything into storage (long story) so that was a pain in the ass.

this morning i get a call that a close friend of my brother’s (and also close with some of my friends) had passed away last night.  i immediately knew that i had to let jeremy know but i knew that he was in california at techcrunch.  that was a hard phone call to make.  times like this it’s so hard to know what to say.   i know that brice was very special to many people and he was incredibly smart and very talented. he will be missed greatly.  my prayers go out to his family and all of the people who are hurting today.
